Paul said in 1 Cor. 10:33 “I also please all men in all things – not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many that they may be saved.”
In Jeremiah chapter 45 Baruch was a scribe who had served the unpopular prophet Jeremiah for quite some time. He wrote all of Jeremiah’s struggles and judgements. Then at one point he became upset. He felt he deserved better. He wanted some recognition, some reward.
God told Baruch to take his eyes off himself and whatever rewards he thought he deserved. God said He would be His reward and sense of fulfillment.
It is easy to lose the joy of serving our God when we take our eyes off Him. The more we look away from God’s purposes toward our own sacrifices, the more frustrated we will become.
As you serve God beware of focusing on what you are giving up. When this happens ask God’s forgiveness then look at Him rather than at yourself.
