Tormenting thoughts are never of God. When we have them it is important to understand that if we are a believer it is not normal to have tormenting thoughts. It is also very important to understand that when we are attacked with these types of thoughts often times we have opened a door to the demonic realm https://jackieosinski.wordpress.com/2013/04/02/cracks-in-the-armor-of-god/ I have found that the majority of time believers have tormenting thoughts is because somewhere along the line they have allowed into their minds thoughts that are demonic. Look at the following list and ask yourself if you have allowed any of these into your mind lately:
Fear of the future
Fear of getting fat (This is often what happens with anorexics)
Fear of people, things, animals, job loss, finances, etc.
Comparing yourself to others
Gossiping against others
Speaking against your parents
Disrespect of your parents
Watching or reading things that are: sexual or violent, graphic, scary movies, horror movies – even computer images or newspaper articles
Allowing those in your household (particularly your kids) to bring in or watch trashy video games, books or movies.
The above list is not comprehensive as there are many more sins that open the door to tormenting thoughts. But it gives you a pretty good idea of some of the main areas many people allow tormenting thoughts to come in. What can you do? In my first post I shared how to take spiritual authority and claim a sound mind. If you have done that then let’s move to the next step.
First, repent of your sin. If you have been comparing yourself to others acknowledge your sin to God. Tell Him you were wrong to compare yourself to another and that you are truly sorry. Let Him know that you will do everything in your power to not return to your sin. If that means staying off Facebook then do it. Once you truly repent then cover yourself under the forgiving blood of Jesus. The bible tells us that through the precious blood He shed on the cross we are washed white as snow.
Second, confess Power Verses https://jackieosinski.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/power-verses-that-will-strengthen-you/ out loud every day. I have listed just over 100. You should speak each of them out loud for at least a month. As you do this begin to memorize them. Once you begin to feel peace in your mind you can back down to about 25 a day. In the long run it is good to have about 10 or 15 memorized which you can say outloud as soon as any wrong thoughts begin to torment your mind.
Power Verses remind you of who you are in Christ. They renew your mind. They take out the tormented thoughts and replace them with Godly thoughts. They are just like taking a spiritual vitamin. As you are speaking them it is building up your spirit man. I have had people who were struggling with tormenting thoughts say these and immediately find peace of mind. They are very powerful.
Remember, it is NEVER God’s will for you to have tormenting thoughts.
