More clothes, more money, more vacations, more rest, more friends, more this, more that. When does discontentment ever end?
We live in a society that tells us we need face-lifts, Botox, better homes, better pay, better careers, better bodies, a better life! Paul said in I Timothy 6:8
“If we have food and covering with these we shall be content.”
Paul is saying that if we have food, clothes and a place to stay then you are considered rich!
You and I have more than millions of others in the world. Here is the problem. We live in America. It is normal in America, even for Believers, to be discontent! Paul also said
“I have LEARNED to be content.”
You see from the moment we are born we are injected with thoughts of selfishness. We believe that it is our right to want more, have more and be more. Paul was no different. Yet he knew that if he were to be all that Christ called him to be he would have to learn to be content.
Contentment doesn’t come naturally. If you are frustrated with your life, despondent, irritated and discontent then begin to pray daily
“Lord, TEACH me to be content.”
May we be grateful for what we DO have and stop focusing on what we DON’T have.
